#2 - - Next step - Filing a Notice of Intent to Homeschool
In the state of Colorado, you must file a notice of intent to homeschool with any school district in the state. You address your notice to the Director of Pupil Personnel of that district.
Here is a sample - Click Here - you can use hers as it is written, or you can use it as an outline of how to make your own. Please, don't provide any additional information - provide only the information that is asked for on the sample NOI.
Here is a selection from the homeschool law (link in the previous post) -
(e) Any parent establishing a nonpublic home-based educational program shall provide written notification of the establishment of said program to a school district within the state fourteen days prior to the establishment of said program and each year thereafter if the program is maintained. The parent in charge and in control of a nonpublic home-based educational program shall certify, in writing, only a statement containing the name, age, place of residence, and number of hours of attendance of each child enrolled in said program. (Emphasis mine)
Notice what the law says, and submit ONLY this information. Don't submit information concerning what dates you plan to homeschool, or what curriculum you plan to use, or whether or not you plan to employ a tutor, or information about what subjects your student plans to study. Include ONLY the information in the emphasized section above! When I write our notice of intent to homeschool, I simply fill in the blanks. I think that our NOI is only two sentences long. One sentence states the names and ages of my children, and their address. The other sentence states that we plan to homeschool a minimum of 172 days per year, for an average of 4 hours per day.
